Delete your account

Deleting your Agora account removes it and its data permanently. It takes about a minute inside the app, and there is an email route if you have already uninstalled it.

Deleting from inside the app

This is the fastest route and it needs nobody's help.

  1. Open Agora and go to the Profile tab.
  2. Tap the settings icon to open App Settings.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
  4. Confirm that it is really you. What you are asked for depends on how you signed up:
    • Signed up with email: type your password.
    • Signed in with Google or Apple: complete one more sign-in with that provider.
    • Neither: type DELETE to confirm.
  5. Tap Confirm & Delete.

The deletion runs immediately and signs you out when it finishes. There is no waiting period, no deactivated state, and nothing to cancel afterwards — so be sure before you tap it.

If the confirmation step fails. A password box that rejects a password you are sure is right usually means the account was created with Google or Apple and has no password at all. Sign out, sign back in with that provider, and try again — or use the email route below and it will be handled for you.

If you have already uninstalled the app

You do not need to reinstall Agora. Email a deletion request instead.

Subject line: Delete my account

Include in the message:

  • The email address on the account, if it is different from the one you are writing from.
  • Your username on Agora, which makes the account easy to find.
  • A sentence confirming you want the account and its data deleted permanently.

Send it from the email address on the account if you can. That is the simplest proof that the account is yours. If you cannot — because you signed in with Apple and used a private relay address, for instance — say so, and you will be asked a couple of questions only the account holder could answer before anything is deleted. This is to stop anyone else from deleting your account by pretending to be you.

Requests are acknowledged within 2 business days and completed within 30 days at the very latest, normally within a few days. You will get a confirmation once it is done.

What gets deleted

All of it, in this order:

  • Trade requests you sent, and requests other readers made for your books.
  • Your conversations and every message in them.
  • Your trades, at whatever stage they had reached.
  • Your activity notifications, and those generated by things you did.
  • Your follows and followers, in both directions.
  • Your blocks, and blocks other readers placed on you.
  • Reports you filed about other people.
  • Your push notification token and notification settings.
  • Every book you listed.
  • Your wishlist and your favourite genres, which are stored on your profile.
  • Your uploaded images: profile photo, banner, and book photos.
  • Your profile: username, name, bio, and location.
  • The login itself, so the email address is no longer registered.

Conversations disappear for the other person too. A thread belongs to both of you, so deleting your account removes the messages from the other reader's inbox as well. If there is anything in a conversation you want to keep — a meeting place, someone's contact details — save it before you delete.

What is kept, and for how long

What Kept for Why

Nothing else is retained. There is no shadow copy of a deleted profile, no archive of listings, and no backup from which an account is reconstructed.

If deleting is more than you need

Deletion is permanent, so it is worth knowing the smaller options:

  • Just want to stop being visible? Settings → Privacy & Visibility → Private Account limits your books and wishlist to followers you have approved.
  • Just want the notifications to stop? Settings → Notifications, per category, or switch them off for Agora in iOS Settings.
  • Just want a particular person gone? Block them from the menu on their profile. It is immediate, works in both directions, and they are not told.
  • Just want your shelf empty? Delete individual listings from your profile and keep the account.

Signing out is not deletion — your account and data stay exactly as they are until you delete them.
